We paddled out, passing waterfront houses and boat docks, then veered toward a small secluded section where we docked at a mini private island. After exploring there, we made our way to the old pier, which had been damaged by past hurricanes but was still visible enough to paddle around. We spent the rest of our time paddling throughout the open water, enjoying the clear blue around us. In total, we stayed out for about two and a half hours. When we returned, the staff let us know we could rinse off and change in their facilities, which was convenient.
The experience
The kayaking experience was excellent. The water was clear, the pace was relaxed, and there's something special about paddling past homes and exploring sections of the island from the water. Where it fell short

If the weather had permitted, we would have stayed longer and explored more of the island by bike. As it was, the conditions cut our day shorter than we'd planned.
